      12th Winterthur Chess Week

      Chess tournament, Switzerland

       
      The 12th Winterthur Chess Week 2012 was held from 6th to 14th October at the Hotel Töss in Winterthur, Switzerland.

      The Festival consisted of Master Open (over 1900 elo), General Open (U2000 elo), Youth Open (U18), Team Blitz and Individual Blitz events.

      The Master Open was played over 9 rounds and featured 30 participants. Grandmasters Perunovic Milos 2617 SRB, Ulybin Mikhail 2529 RUS and Gleizerov Evgeny 2564 RUS shared the first place with 7.0 points each. Perunovic took the winner’s trophy on best tie-break score.
       
      Top prizes were 2’000 / 1’500 / 1’000 / 800 / 600 CHF.

      Special prizes for players outside the prize ranks: Davide Arcuti (best Junior), WFM Julia Novkovic (best lady), Carmi Haas (best Senior), Parvis Nabavi (best U2200). 

      Checkmate prize: GM Dejan Pikula for his checkmate in the 25th move against Julia Novkovic in the first round.

      The General Open had 87 participants. Nicola Schmid (SUI 1956) took a clear first place with 7,5/9 to claim the top prize of 1000 CHF.

      Daniel Fischer (SUI 1629) from Pfäffikon convincingly won the Youth tournament with 6,5/7 points.

      The Blitz event has been won by GM Danilo Milanovic, the only one undefeated, with 8 points out of nine rounds. Second is GM Milos Perunovic with 7,5 points. Untitled Jonas Lampert is excellent third, better than three players with GM, IM and FM titles.
