      Vladimir Georgiev and Ashwin Jayaram share first place in Cardinal Open

      The 38th Cardinal Open Chess Tournament was held on 23-25th January, 2015, at the Embassy Suites Airport Hotel in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

      The event had five sections: Open (FIDE rated, FIDE rules), U2100, U1800, U1500 and U1200. The playing format was 5-round Swiss with time control 40/120, SD/60 d5.

      A total of 183 players competed, with 50 of them entering the top Open section.

      GM Vladimir Georgiev and IM Ashwin Jayaram repeated the feat from last week’s Tim Just’s Open to share the first place with 4,5/5 points each. They earned $1000 apiece for the effort.

      Open section final standings:

      1-2. GM VLADIMIR GEORGIEV IL 2593 and IM ASHWIN JAYARAM MO 2546 – 4,5
      3-11. GM SERGEY ERENBURG VA 2677, FM SAFAL BORA MI 2455, FM EDWARD SONG MI 2395, FM CARL BRANDON BOOR OH 2388, FM AWONDER LIANG WI 2401, WALKER KYLE GRIGGS OH 2346, SCOTT RAMER OH 2283, JOHN C BIDWELL IN 2271 and CM DAVID TIANJIAN PENG IL 2270 – 3,5 etc
