      2010 North American Youth Championship

      DATES: Aug 16-19, 2010

      WHERE: UQAM Sports Center, 1212 Sanguinet, Montreal, Canada

      The Chess’n Math Association (CMA), the Chess Federation of Canada (CFC) and the World Chess Federation (FIDE) are pleased to invite you to take part in the 6th Annual North American Youth Championship. This is the first time the event is being held in Canada. The event is open to players from Mexico, the United States, Cuba, Haiti, Bermuda and Canada. It will be FIDE, CFC and CMA rated. The top boy and the top girl in each section will qualify to participate in the 2011 Pan-American Youth Festival. Accommodations and meals will be provided to these players at no cost. The top player in each section will receive the FIDE Candidate Master Title which will be officially approved at the next Titles and Rules meeting.

      TROPHIES FOR THE TOP 5 PLAYERS IN EACH SECTION

      Sections (age as of Jan 1, 2010):

      Under 8 years old, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16, under 18. Open and Girls sections. Sections with less than 8 players may be combined at Tournament Director’s discretion.

      FORMAT: 7 ROUNDS, SWISS SYSTEM

      TIME CONTROL: Game 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment.

      LODGING: LORD BERRI HOTEL, 1199 Berri, Montreal. $99.95 PLUS TAXES. Each room has 2 double beds and the price is the same for 1-4 people in the same room. This is a special rate and you must mention “Chess” when you register. You must make your registration no later than July 15, 2010. Call 1-888-363-0363. The hotel is located less than a 5 minute walk from the tournament site. Each National Federation will be entitled to free lodging for two players (one girl and one boy) in each section. Federations have until July 12, 2010 to register their delegates.

      ROUNDS:

      MONDAY Aug 16: Opening Ceremony 10:00 A.M.; Rd. 1 – 10:15 A.M.; Rd. 2 3:00 P.M.

      TUESDAY Aug 17: Rd 3 – 10:00 A.M.; Rd 4 – 3:00 P.M.

      WEDNESDAY Aug 18: Rd 5 – 10:00 A.M.; Rd 6 3:00 P.M.;

      THURSDAY Aug 19: Rd 7 9:30 A.M.; Awards Ceremony 1:30 P.M.; Blitz tourney ($15) 2:30 P.M.

      TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION: $75 Per Player prior to July 12 2010; $100 Per Player from July 12 – August 13, 2010 $125 per player after August 13, 2010 CFC Membership is required for Canadian citizens and residents or a single tournament membership can be purchased for $10 at the same time as registration. Roster changes after July 12 will be charged $25.

      OTHER ITEMS: FIDE rules will be used at this championship since this is an official FIDE event unless exceptions are specified in the house rules. All participants must be under 18 on January 1, 2010. For players who only have one FIDE, CFC, USCF, FQE or CMA rating, we will be using their rating as of August 12, 2010. If a player has more than one of these ratings, the highest rating will be used for pairing purposes. Every effort will be made in the first two rounds, not to pair 2 players from the same province or state together.

      SPECIAL CHAMPIONSHIP DAY CAMP:The Chess’n Math Association will offer a day camp from August 16th to the 20th at 3423 St.Denis Street. The programmation included arrivals between 8 and 9 A.M., transportation to the championship site, analysis of the games with an expert, animation, activities and courses with Lefong Hua (FIDE Master) on Friday. The camps ends at 5 P.M. The cost for the camp is $300 and it includes registration to the championship and to the blitz tournament.
