      FIDE, FIDE Congress, UAE

2nd Quarter FIDE Presidential Board Meeting at Al Ain, UAE
      Tuesday, 07 June 2011 08:02

      June 5th-6th 2011

The Presidential Board meeting was held in Al Ain under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation. The meeting was generously and warmly hosted by the Continental President for Asia, Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nehyan.

The FIDE President, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, reported on his activities since the previous meeting. He had visited 20 countries, meeting with heads of countries, Sports and Education Ministers and informing them of the work of FIDE. In particular he had highlighted the Chess in Schools programme. The Chairman of the Chess in Schools Commission made a major presentation to Board members and it was agreed to accept his proposals for pilot projects in 2011, moving to further implementation if the pilot schemes were successful.

The recommendations of the Chairmen were accepted for titles submitted to the Arbiter, Trainer, Qualification and Events Commissions. The Board decided to implement the recommendation of the Qualification Chairman and Rating Administrator to lower the rating floor to 1000 and produce the rating list on a monthly basis. It was agreed that this should come into effect from July 1st 2012.

Following the closing of bids for the World Senior Championships and World Amateur Championships for 2012, the Board considered the various bids and decided to award both events to Greece. The Women’s World Team Championship 2013 would be organised by Turkey, alongside the World Team Championship.

The closing dates for bids for the World Championship Match 2012 and the Women’s World Championship Match 2011 were extended to July 31st and June 15th respectively. Proposals for both events were under consideration by potential bidders.

It was noted that all 6 events for the Women’s Grand Prix 2011-2012 had been agreed and that the first event would be held in Rostov, Russia in August.

Mr Damiani, the President of IMSA, was invited to the meeting to give a presentation to members on the Mind Sports Association. The Constitutional Commission also met in Al Ain and their proposals for changes in statutes would be distributed to all federations.
