      Ready to check-mate 2009 chess season

      THIS year marks the 30th year Fiji Chess Federation (FCF) has been runningf chess in Fiji and there are big plans to make this year a memorable anniversary for all local chess enthusiasts.

      To start the calendar, FCF will host its 2009 annual general meeting and will check-mate the 3rd Nasese Medical Centre Blitz Championships which is planned for January 31at the Fiji Olympic House in Suva commencing at 2pm.

      Defending champion, Manoj Kumar will be looking at defending his blitz title ahead of several challengers.

      The announcement of the 2008 Presidents Cup is also an eagerly awaited moment. The winner of this award will be announced on Saturday.
