      Canadian Open, Montreal


      51th Annual Canadian Open (July 19-26)

      The 51 Annual Canadian Open will be held in Montreal, QC at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. There will be a prize fund of $25 000 for the five sections of this nine round Swiss.

      Venue: The 5 star Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Downtown Montreal. 135$/night. single / double (must be booked before June 15 here). Cheaper accommodation is also offered at McGill University.

      Sections: Over 2400 (CFC, FQE and FIDE rated)
      Under 2400 FIDE (CFC, FQE and FIDE rated)
      Under 2000 (CFC and FQE rated)
      Under 1700 (CFC and FQE rated)
      Under 1300(CFC and FQE rated)

      CFC = Chess Federation of Canada ; FQE = Quebec Chess Federation

      Round Times: 9 rounds from July 19-26, 2014
      Round 1 (Saturday July 19) : 1 PM
      Rounds 2 and 3 (Sunday July 20) : 11 AM and 6 PM
      Rounds 4 to 8 (Monday to Friday) : 6 PM
      Round 9 : (Saturday July 26) : 11 AM
      Byes : up to three (3) ½-point byes in the first 4 rounds, if asked before the tournament.

      Time Control: 40 moves / 90 minutes + 30 minutes/mate + 30-sec. increment from move 1. No analog clocks allowed.

      PRIZE FUND ($25 000 PLANNED ; $20 000 GUARANTEED)

      +2400:
      $4,000, $2,000, $1,200, $700, $400, $200, $100 — $1500 (best Quebecer: Gowlings prize), $500 (best junior), $300 (best woman), $300 (best senior), $250 (best cadet)
      Section U2400:
      $1,500, $900, $600, $500, $400, $300, $200, $100, $300 (-2200), $225 (-2100), $125 (best woman), $125 (best senior), $125 (best junior), $75 (best cadet)
      Section U2000:
      $1000, $600, $300, $200, $250 (-1900), $150 (-1800), $125 (best woman), $125 (best senior), $125 (best junior), $75 (best cadet)
      Section U1700:
      $750, $500, $250, $100, $150 (-1500), $100 (-1400), $125 (best woman), $125 (best senior), $125 (best junior), $75 (best cadet)
      Section U1300:
      $600, $400, $200, $100, $100 (best U1200), $75 (best U1100), $50 (best unrated player), $125 (best woman), $125 (best senior), $125 (best junior), $75 (best cadet)

      REGISTRATION FEES

      Section A 2400+ : 2400 minus the FIDE rating as of January 1st 2014 (i.e. $100 for a FIDE rating of 2300). $50 discount for players whose national federation (according to the FIDE website) is not Canada. Free for IMs, WGMs and GMs.

      Section B (U2400) : Reg. $105, after July 1st $120, on site $135
      Section C (U2000) : Reg. $90, after July 1st $110, on site $125
      Section D (U1700) : Reg. $80, after July 1st $100, on site $115
      Section E (U1300 and unr) : Reg. $70, after July 1st $90, on site $105
      20$ discount for junior players! (U20 as of January 1st 2014)

      There are additionnal fees of $25 to play up a section (not for section A ; max one section)
      Mini-CO (2 games on July 19 + 2 games on July 20) Specify the section): Reg. $40, after July 1st $45, on site $45
