      7 players tie for the first place in OPorto Open 2015

      OPorto Open 2015 took place from 13-19th July at the Hotel Beta in Porto, Portugal. The tournament is included in the National Circuit of Classic Chess of the Portuguese Chess Federation.

      The 9-round Swiss event was organized by the Grupo de Xadrez do Porto, the oldest Portuguese chess club, as a celebration of its 75th anniversary and it gathered 148 players from 21 different countries.

      The first place was shared in a seven-way tie by  GM Kevin Spraggett of Canada, IM Jorge João Viterbo Ferreira of Portugal, IM Krystian Kuzmicz of Poland, IM Manuel Valles of France, GM Vadim Malakhatkoof Belgium, GM Vitaly Kunin of Germany and GM Angel Arribas Lopez of Spain, after the whole group finished the event with 7/9 points.

      However, Spraggett edged his opponents on a better tie-break score to clinch the title. You can see the full standings and replay the games below.
