      The 9th Colombo International Chess Festival 2016 took place from 3-7th February, at the Public Library of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

      The event was a mass 10-round Swiss FIDE open tournament, organized by the Passed Pawn Chess Club. A total of 542 players participated, including 21 title holders.

      Indian players IM C R G Krishna and FM C.H. Mehar Chinna Reddy tied for the first place at 9/10 points each but Krishna lifted the trophy on a superior tie-break score.

      CM Sathsara Gunarathe Mojitha was solo third with 8.5 points.
