Final Results of the 2012 NAYCC
      México City, Mexico
      Report by Abed Munoz

After 7-hard fought rounds and in four days, five out of 9 American chess players won medals at the North American Youth Chess Championship. Top players Joaquin Perkins won the gold medal for the United States in the U-8 Boys with a score of 6.5/7.

Pranav Senthilkumar also won the gold medal with 6.0/7, both players never lost a game after having plowed through the competition. Both players also earned the FIDE Candidate Master title.

However the American girls also made a statement as the Eswaran sisters, Ashritha Eswaran won the silver medal in the U-12 Girls while her sister who is only 6-years and one month old Aksithi Eswaran won the bronze medal. Also, Chenyi Zhao in the U-10 girls won the silver medal.

All the medal winners are from California while four of the five players are part of Ted Castro’s chess program in the bay area. Ted Castro has made a name for his program as his students are reaping international recognition.

We thank the parents for their trust as well as for the USCF’s cooperation in allowing yours truly to assemble the team.
