      Brazil Chess Championship Round 7

      The 78th Brazil Chess Championship is taking place from 10th to 20th December, 2011, at the Hotel Dann Inn Cambuí in Campinas. 12 players compete in the round robin tournament.

      The competitors exercise a fantastic fighting spirit and only a handful of draws were signed. In round seven all games ended with decisive results.

      GM Rafael Leitao, four-times champion of Brazil, is maintaining a full-point margin ahead of the 2005 champion Alexandr Fier.

      The defending champion Giovanni Vescovi defeated the legendary Henrique Mecking with black pieces but is still bellow the 50% fold.

      Round 7 standings:

      1. GM Leitao Rafael BRA 2626 – 6.0
      2. GM Fier Alexandr BRA 2573 – 5.0
      3-4. GM Mecking Henrique BRA 2590 and GM Matsuura Everaldo BRA 2487 – 4.5
      5. GM El Debs Felipe BRA 2477 – 4.0
      6. FM Santiago Yago BRA 2335 – 3.5
      7-9. IM Barbosa Evandro BRA 2412, GM Vescovi Giovanni BRA 2637 and GM Mekhitarian Krikor BRA 2487 – 3.0
      10-11. IM Di Berardino Diego BRA 2491 and FM Reis Paulo Jatoba BRA 2438 – 2.5
      12. FM Dos Santos Haroldo Cunha BRA 2250 – 0.5
