The Woodlands Children’s Museum is pleased to announce expert Jorge Manzanera will be offering a “Genius Training” course called “Academic Transformation through Chess” that will be held at the Museum in July.
Manzanera possesses a Biomedical Engineering degree from La Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana and a Masters degree in Business Administration from La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, he is certified in Neurolinguistic Programming and in Gifted Education by the Conroe Independent School District. He is a member of the South Montgomery County Chess Club, a member of the National Tutoring Association and a member of Toastmaster International. Manzanera is an Academic Coach and currently coaches students in mathematics as well as other subjects.
“During the summer months children can lose their academic edge so we are honored to partner with Jorge Manzanera in offering chess classes that actually improve analytical performance to create academic transformations for students,” Angela Colton said, Executive Director for the Museum. “He comes highly skilled and highly credentialed and we know young students will benefit greatly from his course.”
Manzanera will provide the chess workshop for ages 10-16 at the Museum Saturdays, 9-Noon, July 9, 16, 23, and 30. There will be an informal tournament on the 30th. The cost for the program is $149 for the four classes and includes a chess mat and chess pieces for each student. Manzanera is also bilingual and Spanish speaking students are most welcomed to participate.
“The objective is Academic Transformation and chess is simply the vehicle,” Manzanera said. “This isn’t so much about being a great chess player and it is about becoming a great thinker. Not only will children respond well analytically, but also emotionally in how they feel about themselves as a creative and capable student.”
