      Kasparov vs Short?

Chess match, chess poll, Garry Kasparov, Nigel Short

There are strong indications that Garry Kasparov is about to play another exhibition rapid match, this time against his former challenger Nigel Short.

Kasparov destroyed Anatoly Karpov in 2009 which brought to an end to the idea of that being a series. Kasparov still has a strong interest in chess and keeps abreast of developments in the game. He has made it clear that he will not return to professional chess, without ruling out such exhibitions. Nigel Short is still a very active player currently number 54 in the world, he ought to provide stronger opposition than Karpov did.

Now rumours, which seem to have a strong basis to them, suggest that a sponsor wants to hold the match in the Town Hall of Leuven, Belgium in October and that negotiations are under way. As likely as not it will be rapid chess, possibly with a blitz element too.

Short will insult Kasparov to death. That’s how he’ll win the match.

Well Susan if you look at Kasparovs high rating of 2851, he did that against the traditionalist which has nothing to do with the TransboardKnight idea that vishy and they boys tryin to learn now, so short has a few chances, but garry always prepared ya know? OH anon when i came to icc the gms were insultin me when i started smashing them with the ultrapirc and the t-board horse idea , i guess they thought i was crazy! heheh now when i do it back am i the bad guy? hehe yall funny.

I think Kasparov would win the match, but Short would have some chances. It would be a good match. Kasparov, even retired has no problems attracting sponsors. His rapid games against Karpov were impressive. Don’t forget Karpov is an active rapid and blitz player, so Kasparov still seems very strong indeed.

I don’t like Kasparov. I do not like as a person and as a player (too long to explain why).

        Maybe I’m crazy …

        Best regards
        Stef

If I were Kasparov I would rather just “turn up” at some open high profile tournament and maybe he would win it or maybe he wouldn’t. He could be casual about it.

Maybe he could try someone in the top 10-20. Even if he hammers Nigel Short, that’s not really something for him to be very proud of. If the unthinkable happens and Short wins, that would be devastating and probably make him want more matches to offset it. It’s kind of a lose-lose situation.

But Nigel Short of all people?

Maybe he would for Nigel Short’s charm, wit and handsome smile (those beautiful teeth…). 🙂
