The Asian Youth Championships reeled off with 278 players from 20 countries competing in 12 age groups for boys and girls, 14-22 May 2011 in Subic Freeport, Philippines. In photo, players draw for top board color at the Technical Meeting. See Results and Standings in chess-results.com.
There is a wonderful photo gallery in the Asian Chess Federation site of children playing chess, which is the point of all our efforts to promote this tournament. Photos are by the passionate camera of Mehrdad Pahlavenzadeh of Iran, treasurer of the Asian Chess Federation.
Asian Chess Federation Deputy President Casto Abundo (center) took over the role of Tournament Director 3 days before the tournament and asked participants for their indulgence after the sudden death of NCFP Executive Director Willy Abalos who was Tournament Director of big events in the Philippines in the last decade. At right is Chief Arbiter Mehrdad Pahlevenzadeh beside his trusty digital camera. At left is Deputy Chief Arbiter Prof. R. Anantharam of India.
Pinoys are best.
