      The 11th European Senior Chess Championship will be held on 6-14 April 2011, in Courmayeur, Aosta Valley – Italy. European Senior Chess Rapid 2011 will be played on 4-5 April 2011, also in Courmayeur, Aosta Valley – Italy.

      COURMAYEUR MONT BLANC
      Located at the meeting point of three countries, Italy, France and Switzerland, Courmayeur (1224 m.) is the essence of the Alps. With its international character and a deep-rooted alpine identity, Courmayeur is a place of encounters and contrasts. The spectacular views on the southern side of Mont Blanc are the backdrop for the intimate and welcoming landscapes, which are the product of centuries-old alpine culture committed to its environment and dedicated to offer the best to all those that love mountains.

      TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS

      1. ORGANIZERS, VENUE
      The European Chess Union, Italian chess Federation and Comité Valdôtain d’Echecs organize the 11th EuropeanSenior Championship, from , April 6th to April 14th , 2011 in Courmayeur , Jardin De L’Ange.
      The European Senior Rapid Championship 2011 will be organized in the same venue from April 4th to April 5th 2011.

      2. PARTICIPATION
      Participant can be any gentleman or lady who is registered by his ECU federation, and he reached his 60th
      birthday till 01.01.2011 or she reached her 50th birthday till 01.01. 2011.

      3. SYSTEM AND RATE OF PLAY
      3.1. The Championship shall be played in 9 rounds following the Swiss System. Time control is 40 moves in 90
      minutes and 30 minutes to the end of the game. The player will additionally receive 30 seconds for each move. Any player who arrives at the chessboard more than 30 minutes after the scheduled start of the round will lose the game.( rules of Rijeka GA Asembly 2010)
      3.2. The Rapid championship shall be played in 9 rounds following the Swiss System as well. The time control shall be 25 minutes for the game, for each player, additional 10 seconds for each move.

      RANKING AND TIE BREAK SYSTEM
      The 2011 winner and senior continental champion will be decided by the person who at the end of the tournament has scored the highest number of points. If two or more players are tied:
      (a) Median-Buchholz, the highest number wins;
      (b) Buchholz, the highest number wins;
      (c) Number of wins, the highest number wins;
      (d) Progressive Score, the highest number wins.

      4. SCHEDULE
      3rd April Arrivals day
      4th April Rapid CH Confirmation of registration before 12:00 hours
      4th April Rapid CH Rounds 1-5 14:00 – 20,00 hours
      5th April Rapid CH Rounds 6-9 10,00 – 14,00 hours – 18,30 Closing Ceremony 5th April Arrivals Senior Championship
      6th April Senior CH. Confirmation of registration before 12:00 hours
      6th April Senior CH. Opening ceremony 14:30 hours
      6th April Senior CH. Round 1st 15,30 hours
      7th – 14th April Senior CH. Rounds 2nd – 9th 10,30 hours
      Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony :14th April at 17:30 hours
      15th April Departure day

      5. ARBITERS AND APPEALS COMMITTEE
      Chief Arbiter of the Tournament Mss. Cristina Rigo , International Arbiter, Gordana Martinovic (NA) FRA, Jean Coqueraut (FA) ITA, Stefan Hellweger (NA) ITA
      Appeals Committee will be elected before the start of the tournament.

      6. AWARDS – PRIZES *
      The winner of this tournament will become The 2011 Senior European Champion and receive the Gold medal.
      The second place will get a Silver medal; the third place is awarded a Bronze medal respectfully. The same format and rules apply for medals awarded to the Ladies division, who play separately within their own tournament. The winner of the rapid tournament will become 2011 Senior European Champion in Rapid Chess. The same title will apply to both the winner of the Gentleman’s division and the winner among the Ladies, the minimum number of participants has to be 9 women. In this case a closed tournament can be played. With more participants 9 rounds are played – according to the “Swiss System”. With less than 9 participants, Ladies will play in the main tournament.

      1st place and Gold medal 1700 € 1st place and Gold medal 700 €
      2nd place and Silver medal 1300 € 2nd place and Silver medal 500 €
      3th place and Bronze medal 900 € 3th place and Bronze medal 300 €
      4th place 700 € 4th place 200 €
      5th place 500 € 5th place 100 €
      6th place 400 €
      7th place 300 €
      8th place 250 €
      9th place 200 €
      10thplace 150 €
      11th – 15th place 100 €
      Rapid Championship Special Prizes
      1st Place and Trophy 500 € Best Game Special trophy
      2nd Place and Silver medal 300 € Best Performance Special trophy
      3rd Place and Bronze medal 200 € Older Participant Special trophy
      4th place 150 € 5th – 6th place 100 €
      1st Woman 150 €
      2nd Woman 100 €
      Total Prize fund: 10350 euros
      * Prizes are taxed free with the Italian fiscal code. Prizes will be divided in case of equal standings. In case that a participant is eligible for two or more money prizes, he will receive only the highest.

      7. ENTRY FEES:
      The entry fee for the Senior Championship is 60, – Euro and is to be paid with the registration. The entry fee for the Rapid Championship is 25 – Euro and is to be paid with the registration.

      8. REGISTRATION AND TRAVEL CONDITIONS
      8.1 Entry forms must be sent from the Federations or the players and returned to the Organizing Committee not later than Monday February 28th 2011.
      8.2 The complete registration form must include the surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and of each player and each accompanying person.
      If you need VISA: Free of Costs The organization needs you to supply the following Information BEFORE January 30th 2011 : Name – Surname – Place and Date of Birth – Passport Number – Present Address – Italian Embassy or Consulate involved in the country where the visa request was made. This information will be sent to the Italian Olympic Committee for the issue of a VISA by the Embassy or Consulate indicated.
      8.3 The cost of bus transportation from Malpensa ( Milan) airport (200 km) to the Tournament hotels
      with return on the arrivals /departure days is 70 EUR per person. The cost of bus transportation from Caselle ( Turin) airport (150 km) to the Tournament hotels with return on the arrivals/departure days is 40 EUR per person. Free shuttle from/to hotels-play room for distance over 800 mt
      Transfers from Milano-Linate, Bergamo Orio-al-Serio and out in the indicated days of the arrivals and departure are to be considered as exceptional and will be agreed upon case by case.
      8.4 At the time of registration till Monday February 28th 2010 the amount of 60 EUR (entry) and transportation cost (if required) must be transferred , free of bank charges, to the following bank account of the Organizing Committee for each participant or accompanying person ( only transportation cost)
