MANILA, Philippines – Filipino chess whiz Wesley So raised his Elo rating by 1 point, good enough to retain his No. 2 spot among the world’s top chess players under 18 years old (U-18).

Based on the list released by the World Chess Federation or FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) last November 1, Grandmaster (GM) So now has an Elo rating of 2669.

This makes So the world’s No. 2 U-18 player today and the world’s No. 9 in U-20 (under 20 years).

The Bacoor, Cavite-based chess prodigy is the top ranking chess player among Filipinos.

Although 12-time National Open champ GM Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. had no FIDE-rated game from September to November, he is still the Philippines’ No. 2 with 2573 Elo points.

GM Darwin Laylo gained 5 Elo points to climb from No. 5 to No. 3. He is now tied with Laylo at No. 3 with an Elo rating of 2527.

GM John Paul Gomez slid from No. 3 to No. 5 with 2522 Elo points followed by No. 6 GM Joseph Sanchez with 2517.

At No. 7 is GM Mark Paragua who is now rated with 2509 Elo points.

Rounding up the Top 10 are No. 8 GM Eugene Torre (2484), No. 9 International Master (IM) Julio Catalino Sadorra (2473) and No. 10 IM Richard Bitoon (2461).
