Round 5 results:
Robson got a very nice position against Onischuk right out of the opening. However, after a small inaccuracy, Onischuk was able to get back into the game. Robson was not able to find the proper continuation in the endgame. Meier continues his good form to score his 3rd win in 5 rounds. In the final game of the day, Almasi had a better endgame. He actually reached a winning position but was not able to find the knockout punch over the board. So defended the best he could to earn a draw.

After losing the first 2 games, Yang scored 3 straight wins. He needs only 1 point in his final 4 games to earn an IM norm, or 3 points in the final 4 games for a GM norm. Ippolito was on his way to a +2 after achieving an excellent position against Finegold. Unfortunately, several inaccuracies in time pressure did him in. It is a heart breaking loss. Antal and Bykhovsky got into a wild game. The position looked real good for Antal but Bykhovsky played very well to hold. Kuljasevic and Smith also had a very interesting position but the game ended in a hard fought draw.

As the organizer, I could not be happier with the outstanding fighting spirit so far. There is virtually no easy game. Every game is full of intensity and drama.
