      90th City of Montreal Open Chess Championship
      September 10 – 12, 2010 in Montreal, Quebec

      Our friends at the Ahuntsic Chess Club in Montreal are again hosting the 90th City of Montreal Open Chess Championship, September 10 – 12, 2010 in Montreal, Quebec. A beautiful new playing venue has been obtained that also provides much more room and is conveniently accessible by bus and the metro, and also provides food service on site.

      The prize fund has also been increased by $1,000 this year to $6,000, and Goddesschess is again sponsoring additional prizes in the sections for the top female finishers in addition to providing other sponsorship.

      Confirmed players include GM Alex Lenderman, GM Bator Sambuev, IM Jean Hebert, WIM Yuan Yuanling, highest rated female player in Canada and a member of the Canadian Women’s Chess Olympiad Team, as well as many strong Canadian masters.

      Registration form in English – registration available online prior to September 10

      Registration will be available on site on September 10 but cash-only.

      Rate of Play:

      Electronic clocks – 30 moves/75 minutes, followed by rest of game/40 minutes, 30 seconds increment per move

      Other clocks – 30 moves/90 minutes, followed by rest of game/60 minutes.

      Schedule:

      Friday, September 10
      Late registration 17:00 – 18:15
      Round 1 – 19:00

      Saturday, September 11
      Round 2 – 10:00
      Round 3 – 16:00

      Sunday, September 12
      Round 4 – 9:30
      Round 5 – 15:30

      Free registration to GMs, IMs, FMs, reduced rates available to Canadian national masters. Further information available on the Registration Form.

        We’re very excited about the new playing venue, which is beautiful and offers many amenities, and hope for a great turn-out. As of this morning, there are 112 pre-registered players. Goddesschess is also hoping for a large turnout of female players so players. The more, the merrier!

        Yes – incredible looking area, isn’t it? Fit for a king or queen! And a queen will be crowned at the end of this event – the successor to Salome Melia.

        The city and its people are just as beautiful BTW …
