Overnight chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should White proceed? 1k6/1P6/1K6/2p5/1p3pn1/7p/8/B7 w – – 0 1 Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Bg7 with the threat Bf8-d6++
So Black must guard d6.
guarding d6 is possible only by knight
But if knight moved now aiming to guard d6 then Be5++
So black must move one of his pawn.
Then Bf8 and black knight is too late to guard d6
1. Bg7 (The knight cannot move in view of Be5#)
1..Some pawn move
2. Bf8
Now Bd6# is unstoppable
Bg7, h2 (black knight can not move).
Bf8, h1=Q. Bd6+ checkmate
Looks like 1. Bg7 2.Bf8 3. Bd6 wins to me.
1. Bg7 wins for white, only move. Black cannot stop a further Bf8-Bd6#
1.Bg7 h2 2.Bf8
Oh I see..Bg7 Ne3 then check and wins…stupid me..haha..sorry..
Bg7 ?
Bg7 ?
Susan, please ignore *this* and my previous post. I didn’t realize the posts are moderated hence I posted my comment (Bg7?) twice. Shall take note of this from now on, but apologies for the inconvenience caused this time around.
Cheers,
Mukund.

1. Bg7 N~ 2. Be5# or
1. Bg7 h2 2. Bf8 and i don’t see how can black stop Bd6#
1. Bg7
2. Bf8
3. Bd5
Even if Black Queens the h-Pawn it won’t help
1.Bb2 (going to f4 through c1) 1-0. Black knight can’t prevent it since it is guarding e5. Black is always one move behind.

After 1.Bg7 black has nothing availiable to counter the mating threat Bf8-Bd6#
The Bb2-Bc1-Bxf4 plan on the other hand fails to 1…h2 2. Bc1 Ne3!
just my two cents…
I spotted this in 10 seconds, so must be easy.
Bg7-Bf8-Bd6# can’t be stopped
Bg7 looks good
Bg7
nice win for white: Bg7-Bf8-Bd6#
Black cannot cover both d6 and e5 squares
