      2010 CSCA K-6 State Championship Winners !!!

      Zachary Filler of Weston, CT scored a perfect 4 – 0 to take 1st place in the K-6 Open section of the CSCA K-6 Championship on March 28th in Storrs. Finishing 2nd through 5th respectively were Jeffrey Qu of Clifton Park, NY, James He of Woodbridge, CT, Eric Hilhorst of Simsbury, CT, and Simon Kubrynski of Wolcott, CT. Top Upset Prize was won by Mihir Nene of Fairfield, CT !


      Philip Vlandis of Fairfield, CT won the K-6 Reserve with a perfect 4-0. Anthony Diaz Jr. of Glastonbury, CT, Andrew Rogozinski of Stamford, CT, Destin Piagentini of Fairfield, CT and Imad Rizvi of Glastonbury took 2nd though 5th respectively. Top Upset Prize was won by Destin Piagentini !

      Michael Cafiero of Guilford, CT also scored a fine 4-0 to take clear 1st in the K-3 Open. Finishing 2nd through 5th conseutively were Neev Suryawanshi, Rohan Suryawanshi, both of Stamford, CT, Rahul Krishnan and Rohan Krishnan both from Hopkinton, MA. Top Upset Prize was won by Michael Cafiero !

      Finally, Tyrell Staples of Stratford, CT scored a splendid 4-0 to take clear 1st in the K-3 Reserve. Following in order of finish for 2nd through 5th were Cogan Lawler of Stamford, CT, Ronan McDermott of Guilford, CT, Sadie Edelman of Weston, CT and Malcolm Katz of Fairfield, CT. Top Upset Prize was won by Benjamin Filler of Weston, CT !

      The top 5 teams were led by perennial powerhouse Riverfield Elementary of Fairfield followed in order of finish for 2nd through 5th by Hopewell Elementary of Glastonbury, CT, Northeast Elementary of Stamford, CT and Tariffville Elementary of Simsbury, CT.

      A total of 63 players participated. Players who did not win trophies were awarded participation medals.

      We’d like to thank our team of tournament directors for a job well done: Chief TD Emily Pond, assistants Al Pinto, Doug Pence, Randy Shane, Jim Dunion, John Fikiet, Alex Fikiet and IM Robert Hungaski.

      Players who scored 2.5 points or more earn a free entry into the CSCA K-8 State Championship April 11th in Storrs, CT. Details are below. If you intend to play, please notify John Fikiet at fikiet@eng2.uconn.edu and kindly include your regular tournament info: name, grade, school, DOB, USCF ID# & expiration date. The April supplement will be used for ratings.

Trophy to Top 5 teams of 4 or less from 1 school. Ties for Top 5 individual places broken by G/60 playoff tournament or match on May 16th same location, round 1 at 10 AM. All other ties broken according to USCF tiebreak rules. All players with plus scores, 2.5 or better, get free entry into CSCA K-12 Championship on April 25th.
