      Ciudad de León, Spain

      Magistral Ciudad de León 2010
      Friday, 12 February 2010 10:51

Levon Aronian form Armenia, currently ranked 5th on the FIDE list and Grand Prix winner, Boris Gelfand from Israel, 7th player in the world ranking and FIDE World Cup winner, the best Cuban player Leinier Dominguez Perez and Francisco Vallejo Pons of Spain make up the quartet of great stars which will take participation at the XXIII edition of the rapid chess tournament Magistral Ciudad de León.

“Ciudad de León” appears more attractive than ever. The 2010 tournament once again puts the Spanish city León on the global map of the most prestigious chess competitions. To bring more excitement to the event this year, games will be played with time control of 20 minutes plus increment of 10 seconds per player, speeding up the pace of play.

The modern audio and video equipment will be installed around the playing stage, so that, like in earlier editions, the audience will be able to closely observe the players’ emotions and try to grasp their thoughts. A big help in the process will be the live commentary from GM Miguel Illescas and IM Michael Rahal, supported by analysis of powerful computers.

“Ciudad de León”, with the usual playing format of two semifinals and final match, is taking place on 3-7th June. More information on the official website.
