      3rd KL Open Chess Championship

      1. Organisers and Sponsor

      3rd KL Open Chess Championship will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 6-12 April 2010.The Championship is organised by Kuala Lumpur Chess Association (KLCA) with sponsorship from Masterskill University of Health Sciences and the Malaysian Intellect Development Foundation. Supported by the Malaysian Chess Federation and managed by Effective Commerce Sdn. Bhd.

      2. Schedule & Format of Play

      Tuesday 6 April

      12:00- Arrival & 18:00 Final Registration & Players Meeting

      Wednesday 7 April

      09:00 Round 1 & 16:00 Round 2

      Thursday 8 April

      09:00 Round 3

      Friday 9 April

      09:00 Round 4 & 16:00 Round 5

      Saturday 10 April

      09:00 Round 6

      Sunday 11 April

      09:00 Round 7 & 15:00 Round 8

      Monday 12 April

      09:00 Round 9 & 14:00 Blitz Tournament & 18:00 Prize Giving & Closing Ceremony

      The KL Open will be played using the Swiss system and be FIDE rated and titled*. The rate of play will be 90 minutes for the whole game with 30 seconds increment for every move starting from the first move.

      *The Malaysian Chess Federation is responsible for submission of the KL Open tournament report generated with the Swiss manager pairing program to FIDE for rating and title purposes.



      3. Prize Fund

      1st – RM 10,000 & Challenge Trophy; 2nd – RM 5,000; 3rd – RM 3,000; 4th to 10th – RM 1,000; 11th to 20th – RM500 each

      4. Entry Fees to be payable by 16th March 2010; thereafter a 50% penalty of applicable entry fee applies.

      *First 10 GM/IM/WGM/WIM and players over 2400 registering with a refundable USD 100 deposit will get free board at the official hotel, and will also be provided a meal allowance.

      *The organisers reserve the right to accept and reject entries.

      5. The Playing Venue & Official Hotel

      The KL Open will be held at the Olympic Sports Hotel where we are proposing a package of 7 nights stay on a twin sharing basis in a superior or deluxe room (inclusive of breakfast) together with meet and greet airport transfers for just USD 200. Subject to room type, each additional night would be charged between USD 35-45.

      Olympic Sports Hotel is located in Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant China Town, at the centre of which is Petaling Street, a frantically busy market of amazing colours, smells and sights that offers an experience like no other from morning till night!

      And next to Petaling Street is Pasar Seni (Central Market), today a cultural and crafts centre which is also next to a Light Rail Transit station of the same name and which connects to KL International Airport via the KL Sentral transportation hub and just a 10 minute ride to other major tourist attractions such as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre with its iconic Petronas Twin Towers.
