Working visit of FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov to Antwerp

On October 28, the Head of Republic of Kalmykia, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived on a working visit to the Belgian city of Antwerp, where he held negotiations with the Vice-Mayor of Antwerp Mr. Van Campenhout. During the negotiations Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Mr. Van Campenhout discussed the prospects of conduct of major international chess tournaments in Antwerp. In particular, the World Chess Championship Match, as well as one of the stages of the FIDE Grand Prix.

As nowadays Antwerp is recognized as a center of the production of jewelry, Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov held negotiations with the representatives of the World Jewelry Association and Antwerp Diamond Exchange, during which the issues of cooperation between the Republic of Kalmykia and Antwerp to establish on the territory of Kalmykia a joint venture for the production of jewelry products were discussed.

During the visit the Head of Republic of Kalmykia had a meeting with the leadership of Antwerp Port Authority, one of the largest in the world. At the meeting the prospects of cooperation with the Republic of Kalmykia in the construction Manych channel were discussed.

Also Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov meе with the President of “Alfakam” television company Mr. Gabriel Fehervari. The questions of organization of chess television shows jointly with the International Chess Federation were discussed. TV Company “Alfakam” is one of the largest television companies in the world, among those who worked closely with the International Olympic Committee. As a result of negotiations the both sides agrreed to continue the more detailed negotiations on this issue.
