Overnight chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should White proceed?Source: ChessToday.net Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
(1) Rxa7 Rxa7
(2) Rxa7 Qxa7
(3) Qc8+ Kg7
(4) Qg4+ winning the bishop
1.Ra7-Ra7 2.Ra7-Ra7 3.Qg4-Bg7 4.Qc8-Bf8 and blacks pawns will fall one by one. (please inform me if my analyses are incorrect. thanks)
nice site you have. more power!
Once one can see the double attack with the Queen on g4 it is simple.
1. RxR RxR
2. RxR QxR
3. Qc8+ Kg7
4. Qg4+ Kf8
5. Qxd4
As always, look for a piece on an unprotected square and search for a double attack.
1. Rxa7, Rxa7
2. Rxa7, Qxa7
3. Qc8+, Kg7
4. Qxc6
And white wins a pawn with a stable advantage. That’s my guess 😀
1.Txa7 Txa7 2.Txa7 Dxa7 3.Dc8+ Kg7 4.Dg4+ and blacks bishop falls. Black can get a pawn for the bishop by taking on f2 right after Txa7.
Nice catch in this one.
1. Rxa7 Rxa7
2. Rxa7 Qxa7
And now? 3. Qg4+ Kf8 4. Qxd4? No! I missed 3…. Bg7 first time, after which white has nothing to really look forward to. The missing link is 3. Qc8+! after which the game will proceed 3…. Kg7 4. Qg4+ Kf8 5. Qxd4 and white emerges a minor piece up.
Doubletreat theme:
1. Rxa7 Rxa7
2. Rxa7 Qxa7
3. Qc8+ Kg7
4. Qg4+ and finally qxd4 winning a piece…
Change both rooks, then Qc8+ Kg7; Qg4+ and capture the black bishop
Rxa7
I’d go for 1.Rxa7 Rxa7 2.Rxa7 Qxa7 3.Qg4 Kf8 4.Qxd4. The immediate 1.Qg4 works as well I suppose, but it seems easier to trade the rooks first.
PdV
Quite easy, forced moves are:
1.Rxa7 Rxa7
2.Rxa7 Qxa7
3.Qc8+! Kg7
4.Qg4+! Kf8
5.Qxd4
1-0
Don’t know if anything’s even better, but 1.Rxa7…Rxa7, 2.Rxa7…Qxa7, 3.Qc8+…Kg7, 4.Qg4+ and black is down a bishop after 5.Qxd4
Xavier john is correct. Many others does not see that black can play Bg7 after Qg4+
