SRJC’s Day under Oaks canceled over flu concerns

Day Under the Oaks, the annual campus open house at the Santa Rosa Junior College scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled because of a probable case of swine flu being investigated in Sonoma County.

“We bring in an awful lot of people,” said Bob Agrella, president of the college. “Food is handled, all kinds of other things are handled, and just as a precautionary measure” it was canceled.

The campus held a task force Friday morning to discuss how the school will respond if a student or member of the faculty contracts the virus. At that meeting, a county health department official confirmed a probable case is being investigated in Sonoma County.

Agrella said no recommendations were made to him whether to cancel the annual event that typically draws about 10,000 people for music, dancing, campus tours and other events.
