      GM Markovic wins Serbian Championship

      The Serbian Individual Chess Championship took place from 11-19th April, 2016, in Pirot. The event was a 10 player round robin with classical time control.

      GM Miroslav Markovic is the new champion after concluding the tournament with 7,0/9 points. Markovic was 1998 Yugoslav champion and world top-100 player in 1999, but he hasn’t played much in the recent years.

      GM Branko Damljanovic tried to catch the winner but he over-pushed in the last round and lost to GM Danilo Milanovic.

      Talented juniors Milan Zajic and Vuk Djordjevic finished in the middle of the crosstable.

      Final standings:

      1. GM Markovic Miroslav 2440 SRB – 7
      2. GM Damljanovic Branko 2588 SRB – 6
      3-5. GM Milanovic Danilo 2485 SRB, GM Bogosavljevic Boban 2527 SRB and GM Savic Miodrag R 2526 SRB – 5
      6-7. IM Zajic Milan 2491 SRB and Djordjevic Vuk 2410 SRB – 4.5
      8. GM Todorovic Goran M 2462 SRB – 4
      9. GM Miljkovic Miroslav D 2490 SRB – 2.5
      10. GM Antic Dejan 2478 SRB – 1.5
