Monday night chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should White proceed?2r3k1/2qp1p1p/p4nr1/1pp5/5P2/2Q3P1/PB5P/3R1RK1 w – – 0 1 Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
1. f5 b4
2. Qf3 Rh6
3. Qe3
I like:
1. Rd5 followed by Rg5
But b4 seems to hold
f5…Qe3, Ng4 seems to hold
The rook on g6 is committed to defending the knight pinned on f6, but has limited mobility (“Heavy pieces should not be lifted lightly.”) and is subject to attack:
1. f5 b4
2. Qf3 Rh6
3. Qe3 Ng4
4. Qg5+
1. f5 b4
2. Qf3 Rh6
3. Qe3 Ng4
4. Qg5+ Kf8
5. Qxg4
I don’t see significant counterplay for Black, but I could be wrong.

I don’t see the need for 2. Qf3. Why not 1. f5 b4 2. Qe3 and the R has no flight square that holds the N.

If 2.Qe3 instead of 2.Qf3, then 2…Ng4.
