      Hess earns 2nd GM norm

Lubbock, Robert Hess, SPICE, Spice Spring Invitational, TTU

With the win today, IM Robert Hess has already secured a 9 round GM norm with 2 rounds to spare. He can earn a 10 round GM norm with just 1/2 more point in the final 3 games.

Congratulations to IM Hess and his coach GM Sher.

Is there any advantages to securing a 10-round norm when Hess already has the 9-round norm?

Is the final position in the Hess game on MonRoi.com incorrect? According to the tablebases it’s a draw and Nh6 holds for white.

The final position is correct and white resigned a dead drawn position after being winning all game. Confirmed by Hess himself.

I think technically in his case there is no any advantages, he has 9-round GM norm from Foxwoods plus 9 (10) round GM norm from here, in total he needs 27 games from at least two tournaments, so anyway he need another 9-round GM norm,
but technically someone can make GM Title with 10 round norm plus 17round norm, the only advantage if Robert will lose somehow the rest of the games, he still will keep his 9-round norm, also if theoretically Mr. Hess will make his final GM Norm in the 2009 World Cup or 2009 World Team Championship, which allows 8-round GM norm, 10-round GM norm will be benefit for him, but if he will qualify for World Cup through US or Continental Championship or qualify for US Team almost certainly he will get the final GM Norm in the process of qualifying,

Anyway is someone knows what is happen in the Gareev-Hess game? The endgame is completely drawish.
