Davy claims another rbtt Junior chess crown
      Wednesday, March 18, 2009
      Jamaica Observer – Kingston, Jamaica

Camperdown High sixth-former Damion Davy claimed his second straight RBTT National Junior Chess Champion title on Sunday at the RBTT Bank Head Office in New Kingston.

Davy took home the title after registering a convincing final round victory over Jamaica’s number one ranked Junior and National Under-16 Champion Stuart James of Wolmer’s Boys’ in the final round.

Davy ended on five points from seven games, half-point ahead of UWI student Zachary Ramsay, who took second with 4.5 points. Third went to another UWI student, Paul Brooks, who ended on four points. Brooks was in a position to take the title with a win in the last round, but failed against his less-fancied opponent Lucien Rowe.

Fourth was shared by Stuart James and Campion’s Phillip Pryce with 3.5 points each, followed by Peter Thomas and Lucien Rowe tied in sixth place on three points each, while eighth went to Glenmuir’s Laurence Davey, who secured 1.5 points.

The RBTT National Junior Girl Chess Champion title was won by defending champion Margoe Williams on a tie-breaker over Campion’s Ashley Ferguson, after both players ended on three points.

Third to fifth went to Wolmer’s Girls’ students Ariel Barrett, Krishna Gray and Samantha Nelson, respectively.
