Saric and Golubenko world youth chess champions
      Croatian Times
      31. 10. 08. – 14:00

Croats Ivan Saric and Valentina Golubenko are the winners of the U-18 World Youth Chess Championship in Vung Tau in Vietnam.

Saric and Golubenko won their titles in the group for those under the age of 18.

Saric bested Armenian Samvelo Ter-Sahakian in the last round and was then selected as the best player.

Golubenko entered the last round with a two-point advantage after suffering only one loss at the hands of Czech Katerina Nemcova. In the end, Golubenko won first place with nine points in 11 games.

For Croatia, it means a third world title for young males and a first world title for young females.

This year, 885 players from 73 countries competed in six age categories.
