Practical chess tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving I just saw this on chess today. It took place in round 7 at Staunton Memorial. It is White to move. How should White proceed? Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
This is too hard for me.
1.Rg7!! attacking the bishop and threatening Qh6.
1…Bc8
2.Qh6 winning.
[1…Kxg7
2.Nxf5 of course.]
I like 1.Qg5-Qc7 2.Qf6+ Rxf6 3.Rg8#
I like 1.Qg5-Qc7 2.Qf6+ Rxf6 3.Rg8#
1.Qg5 works very well until Black plays 1…Ng6.
Insteed 1.Qg5, 1.Qh6 with the same idea works also against 1. …Ng6 (2.Rxg6). But, yes: 1.Rg7 is allways better.
1. h5 {h5 seems like a good move to me. King is already in the corner. All that is need is to seal off the escape routes.}
1.Qh6
1.Qh6? Ng4 and Black has no problems.
Amazing!
