World Junior Chess Championship U20 pairings round 1
GM Mamedov with difficult opponent, WGM Hou Yifan to play in the men section

The pairings for round 1 of the World Junior Chess Championship U20 are already known. The top seeded GM Rauf Mamedov will have a difficult opponent – IM Pandian Karthiekeyan. Similar draw have GM Rodshtein, GM Andreikin, and GM Laznicka who will face IM Kore, FM Benidze, and FM Narmontas.

WGM Hou Yifan, who recently missed to get a GM norm at First Saturday tournaments, will seek to achieve it in the men section of the Junior U20 championships in Turkey. She will meet Julijan Plenca in round 1.

Other interesting pairings include GM Wesley So – FM Sokhib Djuraev, GM Ante Brkic – Mikko Niemi, Parimerjan Negi – Gareth Oliver, FM Grover – GM Howell.

In the girls section, Vera Nebolsina has decided not to participate and with Hou Yifan participating in the junior section things at the top look quite ballanced. IM Dronavalli Harika will meet WFM Davletbayeva. WFM Toth will have white against WGM Mariya Muzychuk, and WGM Foisor will have difficult task against WIM Harmalukova.
