      Topalov – Kamsky?

      Chess match, Gata Kamsky, Topalov

On May 5, 2008, FIDE President Ilyumzhinov stated the following:

      Dear Friends of chess,

The official announcement concerning the host country of the WCC semi-final match Kamsky-Topalov will be published and distributed by Monday 12 May 2008.

Both qualifying players will be expected to sign their undertakings by Tuesday 27 May 2008. As originally planned, the WCC semi-final match will take place between 26 November and 11 December 2008.

We are looking forward to a great match which will determine the challenger for the World Championship of 2009!

      Kirsan N. Ilyumzhinov
      FIDE President

Does anyone know of the status of this match? There has been no announcement about this match on the FIDE site today and the official announcement has been delayed numerous times already.

Based on the recent performance of the two players, what is your prediction of the outcome of the match?

Well, there are actually two predications, if the match is going to be played at all, and, what would be the outcome.
In a tournament it would be somewhat 70-30 in favour of Topalov. In a match, face to face, it would be 50-50 or a slight edge for Topalov.

Topalov is going to crush Kamsky as an Amtrak train would run over a Twinki. Kamsky has no chance of beating Topalov in a match. Just like Anand will never be able to beat Kramnik in a match. My prediction prepare for Kramnik vs Topalov in 2009.

Fact is that ALL matches (Anand vs. Kramnik, Kamsky vs. Topalov and match between the winners) will be very close and we can only guess and speculate who is going to prevail.

Everyone who says that the matches are going to be one sided doesn’t have a clue.

        Press release!

After the request and the letter of Mr Alexander Chernenko, manager of GM Gata Kamsky, the FIDE President has agreed to give an extension of three more days as deadline for receiving alternative bids on the Kamsky – Topalov WCC semi-final match.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov considers this decision as a last resource to achieve improved financial conditions for both players.

It seems like an action movie: “Mr Kamsky, you have 72 hrs from now!” 🙂

Wow. All the Topalov fans are out. Something to remember is that Kamsky has beaten both Anand and Krammnik in matches before. This will not be a pushover for Topalov in anyway. Even though Kamsky had been out of chess for a period of time and does look a little stale in his openings at times, he has an amazing eye for the slightest mistake by the opponent and is every bit as good as anyone in the top 5.

Kamsky’s team are pathetic with their complete inability to organize a simple match. Honestly. Either show us the money or just shut up and go and play in Bulgaria.

“Everyone who says that the matches are going to be one sided doesn’t have a clue.”

The reality is, that if after following the performances of Kramnik, Topalov, and Anand for the past two years you still think that Kamsky as any real chance against any of them TODAY….then you are clueless.

Did you forget that very few gave Kramnik any chances against Topalov in their unification match?

Before the match Topalov was dominating and Kramnik was nowhere to be seen, and yet he won.

It’s foolish to think that Kamsky vs. Topalov would be one sided even if they played today.
