Record numbers at 1st Lubbock Open

Lubbock Open, Monterey HS, Texas Tech

Around 110 players showed up for the 1st Annual Lubbock Open (more than 20 are female players). The SPF (and SPICE) signed up about 70 new USCF members. The media (local network TVs and newspapers) came to cover the event. Lubbock Commissioner Ysidro Gutierrez is among the participants.

Another notable player is John Hawthorne (2330 FIDE, 2362 USCF), distinguished professorial Chair of philosophy at Oxford University. We have 2 players over 2300, 1 over 2200 and a number of other strong players.

Lubbock Mayor David Miller attended the Opening Ceremony to welcome everyone. This is the largest and strongest ever open event in this city and we hope to grow bigger and stronger each year.

Will you be posting complete cross tables for all the sections somewhere?

        Thanks!

Seems like John Hawthorne is a professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at Oxford, not ‘chair’ of ‘department’ of ‘psychology’.

It appears you are a doofus troll Mr. Slaoni. Why don’t you crawl back into your slimey hole you emerged from. All you have proven is Oxford’s inability to keep its web presence current. Maybe you can give them some pointers you psychopathic pedophile freak.

Anon of 2.37 PM CDT merely makes a few factual corrections – and clearly ‘garbage man’ needs professional help, and that urgently.

If there was a mention of Psychology in the original post, it has now been corrected.

A short search on the web will indicate that Oxford ‘Departments’ are called ‘Faculties’, that John Hawthorne occupies a distinguished professorial Chair at Oxford [which does not make him “Chair of the Department”].

In my own amateur way, I am also a student of the philosophy of language and epistemology, and from those points of view, this blog is particularly interesting.

We should all be as honest and decent as Brian Laughterty. His contribution to chess and cycling is immeasurable. He can also sell you the Brooklyn bridge for $5.

Another correction improves the original text, but he is not ‘Chair of philosophy’ at Oxford – which suggests he is the head of something.

John has _a_ Chair, not _the_ Chair. Homework time! I recommend a search engine …
