Hou now just needs a single point in her remaining two games – tomorrow playing Black against Atalik and then playing White on Thursday against Javakhvishvili – to attain her GM norm. Hou is also in a dead-heat for 1st with GM Pia Cramling, each with 5.5/7.0.

        Jack,

1.45b For a GM norm at least 3 of the opponents must be GMs.

If you’re correct about the 3 GM prerequisite, then Hou is clearly a GM short (Chen & Cramling being the only GMs in the field). I was merely quoting from the site herein, where the 6th Round Standings stated:

“Only Atalik and Hou are still in contention for GM norms. Atalik needs 1.5 points and Hou needs 2 points in the last 3 rounds.”

Zhao Xue has applied for the GM title. SHe might count as a 3rd GM.
