      Chess and Education, Mikhail Korenman

This was sent to me by Dr. Mikhail Korenman.

Here is a picture of my recent visit to the CCA Academy. This school is a part of the Alternative School Network in the city of Chicago. 100% of students are “students-at-risk” who already dropped regular schools. The school was founded 30 years ago by Mr. Sampson who is still the current Principal/CEO. Chess does make a big difference in turning these young men around.

The school has chess as part of the regular school curriculum and students receiving 1 credit for the class. The CCA chess team participated at the National High School chess championship in Kansas City, National Youth Action in St. Louis, and is scheduled to participate at the National high school championship in Atlanta. The school covered 100% of all cost and spent over $40,000 for chess this year.

Is she seriously moving with her left hand while holding a purse on her right shoulder?

$40k/year sounds like a ridiculous amount to spend on chess – how big is this school?!
Frankly, you would have to provide me with some evidence that that is true, and not the usual hyperbole.
