Chaos in the chess election in the Philippines

      Chess politics, Philippines

      Chess on the rocks?

TWO factions of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines are both claiming legitimacy in the holding of a general election this year.

NCFP president Prospero Pichay and his secretary-general Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino already announced as early last month that the election of the federation’s board of directors is on Jan. 19 at the Tagaytay City International Convention Center.

But to their surprise, NCFP executive director, lawyer Sammy Estimo, yesterday handed copies of their press releases, announcing that the federation is holding its general election on Feb. 2 at the multi-purpose hall of the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City.

Estimo, who had a misunderstanding with Pichay regarding the ranking system, claimed that his group comprises majority of the chess body. They contended that an election outside Quezon City is illegal and that “the conduct of the election should always adhere to the rule of the majority.”

Estimo said he has the support of the group’s bigwigs, including NCFP chairman Rep. Mat Defensor, former president Go Teng Kok, vice president Ed Madrid, Benguet Gov. Rocky Molintas, Gen. Art Carillo, Jess Torre and Dr. Jenny Mayor.

The Philippines are not exempt from having crazies running their chess federation.

“But to their surprise, NCFP executive director, lawyer Sammy “Slaoni” Estimo, yesterday handed copies of their press releases, announcing that the federation is holding its general election on Feb. 2 at the multi-purpose hall of the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City.”

Is it me or does the guy Sammy Slaoni exist to cause damage to chess on a world-wide scale?

Can we get him banned from the planet?

The NCFP is a joke. It can’t even maintain a credible ratings system. It’s run by incompetent corrupt hoodlums. And Sammy Estimo is a funny one to be running around crying foul. Trusting him is like trusting a fox in a hen house.

Sammy the Slaoni? What is that? Fill us in on this pls:)

We know of course that Sammy is really Sammy the Big Crab in Philippine chess. He got his training and learned well from Campo the Crook.

What has Sammy and his cohorts accomplished for Philippine chess anyways?

Any guy with “Big Crab” in his name sounds like a crook and possibly a good candidate for ointment for that “big crab” of his…

A Slaoni is a gutless, shifty, bottom dwelling sea creature that takes pleasure from eating the excrement of other fish in the sea and pretends to be interested in swimming with the other fish but only cares to devour anything in its path. It is truly one of natures mistaken creations if not an absolute failure…

Chess is also a game. civil society should settle this dispute in the civil manner. We support Pichay and Mayor Bambol, however, they should settle this mess once and for all. This is a game where fun should not be left behind.

Chess also deserves defense from ugly chess personalities that wish to destroy chess.

When we give in to te demands of crazy people, we are allowing them to hurt chess for young people.

No young person wants to be associated with a crazy chess federation. That is why many closet grandmasters decide to stay patzers because they love chess more than formal competition in a crazy chess world.
