Upper: So that is this new electronic time-keeping device we were told of.
Lower: Now I’ve seen it all. Good that I took part in this tournament.

        Upper :
        – Kramnik : … and what’s this ? A kind of clock or something ?
        – Others : Oh no ! It’s just an automatic tic-toc device, animated by mexican jumping beans to make some typical noise during the games !

Upper: Are you sure that the clock has been rigged according to my specifications?.

Lower: Guess I was playing ‘hope’ chess. Didn’t think my opponent would be smart enough to make the right move!

all tongue in cheek. Hope Kramnik has a sense of humour!

Hm.. since Campomanes started my clock I better check that FIDE didnt deduct 20% of my time.

I give up. There is no difference between these two flags.

Campomanes: “Young man, I won the match for Karpov, and I can do the same for you.”

Second picture (taken while playing versus Grischuk):

“Making faces worked against Morozevich well. He took so many time watching me that he came in serious time trouble and I could knock him out.
If the same trick works against Grischuk now, too?”
        (it almost worked)

That would finally be a reason why they both played so slow against Kramnik.

Btw: Kasparow’s faces where much better, Kramnik is not the world champion in making faces, Kasparow sometimes was. 😉

        Greetings
        Jochen

That was for the second photo. For the first one, I have Florencio Campomanes speaking:

“Yes, new idea to make it easier for spectators: when you overstep the time limit, your flag falls!”

(Very glad to see Campo in fine shape to attend the tournament, after his automobile accident in Turkey earlier this year.)
