A very special event on Oct 13-14

Derek O'Dell, Hokie Memorial, Virginia Tech

The Hokie Memorial Open Chess Tournament will take place on Oct 13-14. This is a special event to commemorate the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech University. Above is Derek O’Dell, President of the Virginia Tech Chess Club. He was one the heroes on that day. With his quick and decisive thinking, he was able to save his own life as well as the lives of some of his classmates.

I was invited by Derek to attend this event and I accepted his invitation. I will be there to represent Texas Tech University, the Susan Polgar Foundation as well as the USCF. My friend Jim Wilkinson, Chief of Staff of the US Treasury Department, is expected to join me to support this special Hokie Memorial Chess Tournament.

Thank you Derek for the invitation and for representing chess so well!
