Chess in Schools Conference in Armenia

Armenia, Chess in Education, chess in the schools

      Dear Friends,

We are pleased to inform you that an International Conference, entitled “Chess in Schools,” will be held in Yerevan, Armenia from 16-18 October, 2014 organized by the Ministry of Education and Science in conjunction with the Chess Academy of Armenia. Co-organizers include the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the Armenian Chess Federation and the Armenian State Pedagogical University.

The Conference will include discussions related to the following themes:

      – “Chess in Schools” Program Preparation Activities
      – “Chess in Schools” Program Organizational Activities
      – Methodological Directions of Chess
      – Scientific Research in Schools of Armenia
      – Chess Research Laboratory
      – Sociological Research in Schools of Armenia
      – Teacher Training and Retraining
      – Distance/Virtual Teacher Training

Chess has become a mandatory subject in the primary schools of Armenia since 2011. Armenia was the first country in the world that embarked on the realization of such a project. During these three years significant work has been accomplished, such as psychological research to assess the effectiveness of teaching chess and the influence of chess as a school subject on the development of children’s logic, creative thinking, intellect and other qualities. Thus, this Conference will be an excellent occasion for participants and attendees to share experience and best practices to promote further development and to enhance the role and importance of Chess in educational systems. During the Conference, Panel Discussions in different thematic directions (organizational, methodological, psychological, sociological) will take place as well.

Registration Form, Draft Schedule and Guidelines are available in the attached files. For more information please visit the official website of the Conference www.iccs.chessacademy.am.

We look forward to welcoming you at this important event.

      Sincerely,
      GM Smbat Lputyan
Founder and President of the Chess Academy of Armenia
      Organizer of the Conference
