Danailov calls for support for Kasparov

      chessdom, Danailov, Garry Kasparov, MTel

      M-Tel Masters supports Garry Kasparov

The human rights of a great champion are disregarded (chessdom)

Mtel Masters is one of the strongest and most prestigious international chess tournaments in the world. As the director of this important chess event, I want to state my opinion on yet another bad incident with Gary Kasparov. Yesterday, he was arrested while attempting to visit a protest of the opposition in Russia.

Gary Kasparov is one of the greatest names in chess history. He is a legend in this sport and has contributed greatly throughout the years for the development of chess not only in Russia, but in different countries all around the world. I believe that the rude attitude towards him, which we are have been witnessing lately, is intolerable and that the politics cannot be a reason for a name like Kasparov to be defiled and discredited. Also, the human rights of a great champion are disregarded.

I think that sports are a way of bringing people and nations together and that everyone has the right to express his convictions in a peaceful way.

I call upon every chess fan in the world to support Gary!
      Silvio Danailov
      Director of Mtel Masters

Susan, did you upload exactly that picture of Danailov on purpose?

Just a random picture. I think the picture is very artistic with the color and black and white. Is there something wrong with it?

        Best wishes,

I thought the picture would stimulate some bad comments about Danailov but I am apparently wrong :).

There should be more information about the incident to consider its ramifications.

If this is all there is to it, then one would think that if it were possible to write the authorities responsible, to ask if Mr Kasparov could be released on his own recognizance, and any charges dropped, that it would be honorable to do so.

It stands to reason in similar incidents that the desired effect is achieved in this way.

Danailov has no right to talk abt Kasparov’s human rights.. when he deliberately denied the “Human Rights” of another WC. He denied Kramnik the right to relieve himself when he needed to… by having the personal toilet locked up.

This blatant abuse of human rights cannot be ignored and forgotten by his support of Kasparov’s human rights.

For once I actually like his comments. It is just as anyone in life, we all have good and bad in us. It is up to us to amplify the good and minimize the bad, just as in a chess game! I did not hear about Kasparov being arrested again. I hope he is alright, he is one of the greatest chess champions of all time and we may very well never have such a dominant player again with his longetivity on top for 20 years in our modern era to come.

Danailov improving his image by this deed- I am surprised that no players/managers have jumped on the Kasparov democracy issue like they did a couple of years ago with ‘free Fischer’ etc. until now- and more surprised who is first.

Now with Topalov back to winning supertournaments outright again (with great efficiency score-wise!), and his manager getting into the good books, with care Topalov could gain confidence and popularity back. If he then gets his top rating back, with a following, public pressure may allow him to push for a leadership contest with Kramnik (yes chess politics!)
