        Hi Susan,
Iam currently studying Irving Chernev’s books, such as 1ooo best short games, and most instructive games. Which of his do you like the most and what were your favorite books to study when you were learning chess?

Will this site eventually have the means to login and post with a name? I think the repeated posts from ‘anonymous’ give it a slightly tacky look which is a pity.

What are some of your favorite studies to show beginners/ intermediate/advanced players?

        The Saavedra, obviously….

I like to show the famous Korol’kov 1951 study (second study in the following link).

        http://chessmind.powerblogs.com/files/korolkov.htm

This famous Halberstadt study is a mind-bender:

        W: Kb4, Ne8, Pa7
        B: Kb6, Nd7

It’s ideal for the pieces to be few (otherwise I won’t remember the position!) and the play to be rich….

Susan, do you see a tension between the scholastic and adult parts of the USCF? What do you think of the suggestions to split the USCF into separate scholastic and adult organizations?

Susan: To promote you and your candidates better I would greatly appreciate two things:
1 – A one page big letter add to pass out at local chess clubs, tournaments.
2 – an email I can forward to my local chess players with the candidates clearly labelled so the members know who to vote for.

Everyone I have been speaking to about you wants to vote for you but I think this will help me spread the word more effectively.

Let me know if you think this will help. I am trying my best at grass roots campaigning for you :o)

ive been listening to fischer and have to say most of what he says is true. although some of his views are extreme. the thing i noticed about bobby is he hates unfairness. his dirty jokes and other things he says are too funny. i cant exactly write some of his jokes because theres kids listening. i think some people take bobby too seriously. he seems like a decent guy except for his obvious paranoid hatred. some of his paranoia is valid. he has been targeted by the us government. his belongings, property, patents and trademark name have been stolen from him.

        Susan

Yes I want something also. Make it so it fits a sheet of paper so we can simply download the file and print copies for handing out. It could be 1 to 4 pages.

4 pages would fit nice on a 22 x 11 sheet of paper folded. printed both sides. some printers can do them easy. but most can not.

1 page printed both sides is really easy to get printed. while 2 pages both sides should be more than enough. please made sure they are easy to read and have some graphics. all print is boring and will not be read so well. some graphic art or pictures would really be good.

People will read your statement in chess life so we need something a little different. no rush just yet. we still have time. but hopefully you have started to think about it.

Wolverine is right–Bobby is not a chess god, only a chess genius, and thus he has some faults, which are magnified by the jealous also rans. The bottom line is that US chess reached its apogee during the “Fischer boom” and has been on the decline ever since. Bobby didn’t need to chase corporate sponsers–they sought him out. If you really are sincere about having a chess renaissance in the US, invite Bobby back into the fold and not exile him to Iceland. If Richard Nixon could grant amnesty to all of the Viet Nam War draft dodgers, why can’t George Bush, Jr. pardon Bobby Fischer– whose only crime was playing in a chess tournament in the only country that would give him and his opponent the compensation they deserved.

I want to tell something and to ask for some tips if other person reading this post has experience to share with us.

About one year ago I started creating chess activities in my own town.
It is a small town(8,000 residents) and I was the only active player.I was part(and I am part yet)of other club out of the town and I play championships with them.
My first step was to find some help…I found it in two of my friends, never federated, but enjoying chess from time to time in a local pub.
With work and a bit of good luck we found local sponsors to help us with the initial costs(boards, clocks)and we organized three tournaments in this time, a simul against an IM and now we give class for 14 to 20 children(aged about ten)each friday since september.

Well, we have activities now but I am not sure about what to do as next step. That is my question:What can I do?

One idea is to do a “chess day”(once a year) with films, simul, classes, live chess(with people dressed like chess pieces and playing) etc.I calculated everything and It is not expensive…and 2007 is elections year for us,then probably the politicians could be interested in supporting this activities if they can be in the newspapers for a while.

I want to know if some of you have been in the same situation and what you did in my case.

        Thanks for your help!

Also tax evasion. Rather incoherent of Fischer to have travelled the world on a U.S. passport & then claim exemption from U.S. taxes.

        🙂

        On Bobby Fischer:

Ok, he is a chess genius, probably the strongest american chess player ever…if you think just that then you can admire him without problems.

In the other hand(out of chess):he is an anti-semite, racist, sexist,he broke international blockade against a country accused of war crimes, etc…

You can play chess with him, but do not introduce him to your friends!

i dont agree at all thats fischers crazy. he just has the guts to speak his mind. hes not fearful of what people think like most cowards. he played the game of chess that way and he expresses his ideas that way. you do a head count and youll find alot of the top posts in government and sports are headed by jewish people.look at nba stern jewish, look at nfl tabliabue jewish , nhl bettman jewish. then look into the government greenspan is jewish and so on. hes not totally off base by saying that. when you take into consideration they make up a small percentage of the population there way over represented in positions of power. he has had his belongings stolen from bekins. hes had his trademark name used for profit with books and movies. hes not gotten enough of the royalties from his books for both my 60 memorable game and bobby fischer teaches chess. the government even took his property in new york and florida against the US law and auctioned them off. he owes nothing to the US. he didnt play the games in 92 inside the US so why should the US get any tax money. there entitled to nothing. they revoked his passport and threw him in jail even though by US law you have to give someone 60 days notice before they can revoke your passport. the US has torture camps in guantanomo and abu graib in complete violation of international law. they use more nuclear power than anyone yet feel theyre the only ones with the right to use nuclear power. ive lived in the states and know that the laws and rules mean nothing and the government does as they please. bush and his government is known to wiretap people and put survelience video on citizens in direct violation of the rights to privacy. so when fischer says the US wants world domination he’s correct. the US acts like a rogue state that does as it pleases in complete violation of international law and there own laws. fischers knows this and expresses his opinion on this fact. i have nothing against any race and i think hes probaly over board but most of his points are valid.

        about topalov-ivanchuk
I do dislike Topalov more than Kramnik. I was heavily rooting for Ivanchuk, my compatriot on this one.
But Topalov has positively surprised me today.
        WOW
        He is a TRUE SPORTSMAN
He could have defeated Vasily is he wanted to. Many observers stated this, including Magnuses father in his blog:
“Ivantchuk probably had a winning position against Topalov but would have lost on time if the game had continued”

As far as Bobby Fischer is concerned, I am sad that we have wasted one of the most brilliant chess minds of our time. I am sad about his apparent hatred for his homeland. I am sad that he maintains a paranoia for governments and certain peoples. I do not and can not judge whether his fears are justified or not but I have read his accounts and if accepted at face value, then something very tragic has indeed happened in this man’s life through no fault of his own. Bobby Fischer… the sorrow of chess.

So would Chief Illiniwek characterize Fischer’s comments on Bomba Radyo on September 12, 2001 (probably a bit after noon EDT on 9/11/01), as philosemitic?

The below link is really not appropriate for the young, and I’ll understand if this post is removed. But the truth matters, too.
