Cat mates a dead bear. Checkerboard square may be interested.

That cat looks very intense on the game. The teddy bear better what his moves.

Idea for marketing chess to kids:

Rename every opening with cute animal names 😉

We already have the Hippo and the Hedgehog (and maybe the Elephant?).
        But I’m talking cute.

Rename the Hedgehog the Kitty Claws Defense.

Kids want to play the Poodle variation of the Doggy Attack, to give their opponent a ruff time.

I am surprised there is no Snake Gambit, or no opening named The Cobra.

Especially since we each already have our favorite or pet openings.

There may not be a “Snake Gambit” but there is indeed a Snake Benoni. I wouldn’t recommend it, however. The bishop spends too many moves trying to “slither” behind the pawns. I guess in that sense it’s a positional gambit…

To the first anonymous poster: I happen to know that bear. I am confident that it is not dead.

The cat likes to play the Catalan Opening. He absolutely loves to play against Bird’s Opening, the Levenfish Variation, and the Pelikan. However, he can be spooked by the Sicilian Dragon, and by the Hedgehog Defense.

Maya will have absolutely no problem licking that cat in a chess match. (She licks everything else, I”m sure the cat will be no exception.)

I think the bear would win because he/she would catch the opponent catnapping!!!

To lambent.on second look I agree, the bear does look plush.
Actually, the cat prefers to play the Gato Gambit with white and the Chat defense with black and often scratches out a win by simply pushing its paws.

As hard as I look I still don’t see any dogs in this photo.
