No, No rematch! This is absurd. What I would like to see is Topalov put into the system in Mexico City. He is one of the top 5 players in the world and I dont care it would be an attrocity to see him left out. But just becomes someone comes up with money doesnt give them a bunch of rights all of a sudden. This is what we need chess to avoid ….the “all bout money” scenario. Topalov got his match….was even given a game….and still lost. It is time to move on. If he works hard there will be an opportunity for him again down the road but years ago one had to earn all of that thru candidate matches and the World championship was only every 3-4 years. I think that system was fine….there were not alot of complaints from professional players of that time about the system. It makes a player continue to strive and work hard.

Yes, I would like to see another match, as the last one was too short, and was close being decided on rapid. Also I would like to see if Topalov can be more solid and blunder less, to really put the pressure on Kramnik. Maybe Kramnik should get draw odds this time, getting rid of rapidplay deciding it, as Topalov would clearly be challenger this time.

NO WAY is Danailov and Topalov going to behave. They broke fide rules and need to be disciplined first. After Topalov sits out of fide for up to 3 years for his behavior then maybe, just maybe, he will come back with better behavior.

Danailov can be banned for life. No hope for him. He needs to handle wreslers. Danailov is a Wresling Mania manager. He is not cut out for chess.

Kramnik just beat Topalov and so Topalov does not get to play in Mexico. There should not be a tournament world champion anyway. world championship is all about matches.

I would like to see Kramnik and Anand in a Match. I would like fide to wake up and drop Mexico as a world championship tournament.

And all the Topalov fans around here can come back in up to 3 years. Until then I hope it is peaceful and quiet around here.

No. I’d rather see a match between Kramnik and the winner of Mexico City, with Topalov in. But since that’s been rejected, and since a pre-Mexico rematch is illegal under current rules, I guess we’ll have to wait until Mexico is over.

Anand deserves a title shot as much as or more than Topalov. Personally, I’d rather see Kramnik-Anand.

Topalov is in insane person. Read the transcript of his latest interview on Mig’s dailydirt. He should be banned from the world of chess. For one year minimum. Preferably two. He’s doing the game untold damage and should be stopped.

No Rematch, but it would be great to somehow get Topalov into the Mexico City mix. Try to lure Kasparov out of retirement and have a 10 player double round robin World Championship.

Once again fide is at fault for having this ridiculous challenge rule.

The Elista match was supposed to end all the arguments and then we get back to a regular cycle starting with the candidate matches and Mexico tournament.

I would prefer to see candidate matches to decide a challenger to Kramnik for the WC ie the idea being that you have to earn your challenge for the title.

A rematch at some point in time?

Sure. Why not? Topalov might not be the best or second best player in the world, but he is in the top 6 or so and another match might be good.

        However, a rematch anytime soon?

        Most definitly not!!

That would just be stupid. No sport allows for rematches every few months, especially when a new tournament is happening next year.

A rematch would be very good for the publicity of chess. It will put chess on the news again and because people expect a scandal every day, interst will be high.

The sportive value of the match would not be as high as in the original match. Who wants to see a new World Championship every 6 month? Just imagine France wanting to play Itlay again in January to become Soccer Wold Champion.

        My conclusion:
No match. Replace Kramnik with Topalov in Mexico and let the winner of Mexico play Kramnik in another World Championship match.

I personally hope there is never another world championship match. I honestly don’t know what people see in them. Yes this most recent one was entertaining because Topalov took a lot of risks on the board, so we got to see some lively play. But if Kramnik had his way it would have been 1 win and the rest boring draws. I will never pay attention to another Kramnik-Leko snore fest, or the crap that he played against Kasparov to deaden the play and achieve a bunch of
Give me a San Luis tournament every second year. But double the games and don’t pick the players the way they are picking them for Mexico. Simple the previous winner gets a spot, winning one of the three or four big tournaments during the last two years earns you a spot (Dortmund, Linaires, Wijk and maybe M-Tel) and the final spots are decided through a point system based on performance at those tournaments.

Let me watch a tourament of San Luis quality where the winner has to, you know….win games. Instead of playing for draws once you are a win ahead.

Normally I would say that a rematch is absurd, impractical, unwise from Kramnik’s point of view, naively opportunistic on Topolav’s and Danailov’s part…the whole concept of a rematch in general is a real pain in the you know where.

However, upon further consideration, I think that pending Kramnik’s approval, if Topalov and Danilov meet several important conditions, a match may bring world wide attention.

Condition 1: To demonstrate his pure, untainted desire to play Kramnik in lieu of fame or fortune, Topalov and Danailov will both become eunuchs.

Condition 2: Both Topalov and Danailov will wear only tunics for a period of not less than one hundred days while sitting in uncovered seats atop 30 meter tall flagpoles located at the famous Chigorin Club, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Condition 3: Both Topalov and Danailov will consume only bread and water while seated atop said flagpoles.

Meeting these three conditions will prove that Topalov’s and Danailov’s commitment to chess be their true motive, making Topalov worthy of an immediate rematch.

Pending verification and the conclusion of the flagpole sitting demonstrations the rematch will proceed.

It would be nice to see Kramnik take a cool $ million from Topalov.

I remember the movies THE HUSTLER and THE COLOR OF MONEY. They were about pool hustling for money. Topalov is now all set up for the kill. Ha Ha. He is coming begging to play. he offers a $ million to play.

THE STING was another great movie where one guy got hustled just like Topalov. Topalov is going to lose for sure.

I have seen the same thing at the park for a few dollars. The chess master sits there and the newbie is begging to play and trying to win. But the master always goes home with the money. Ha Ha.

        Topalov is a Laugh.

No. It wouldn’t make any sense. Since according to the infamous “contract”, Kramnik will play in Mexico, Topalov won’t, and the winner of the Mexico tournament will be the next world champion. Right? Right.

Now, imagine that there would be a Kramnik-Topalov rematch and Topalov would win it. As we know, he can’t go to Mexico (again, the contract). So, Topalov would be the world champion, and a few month later there would be another world champion in Mexico, who can’t even be Topalov, since he can’t play there. Do I have to spell it out? Yes, we would be back again with a split chess world champion status. What many people fought for a decade and a half, would go up in smoke, puff.

Even the way it is there is a danger, since I am very curious whether Kramnik will go to Mexico at all, and what if, if he wouldn’t? Kramnik would continue to claim that he is the champ (nobody beat him in the traditional style) and of course the winner of Mexico would claim that he is the champ.

Other variation: Kramnik will play in Mexico and comes out anything other than first.

This was very poorly organized, but putting a Kramnik-Topalov rematch into this crazy equation would dramatically increase the probability of chaos and split world champion again.

I say no, it is far too soon, there is a big world championship tournament in 2007 and 2008 is not too long to wait to challenge. Even Botvinnik or Karpov had to wait a full year for a re-match and they were undisputed World Champs.

I’d advise Kramnik to have the contract for the match gone through with a fine tooth comb.

For instance, I cannot see that Bulgaria would be a neutral venue for the match.

If he plays, he runs the risk of losing his WC-ship prematurely, and what is the status then regarding Mexico? As far as I know, that specific position is reserved for the world champion, implying that if Topalov wins, he would play in Mexico. I am ready to be corrected.

        Yes
Both are good players, of difference styles, and apart of the scandal Elista was a most interesting event by chess-game perspective. These who support extreme views to somehow exclude one of these top chess players are or too biased or childish or both.

The archi-problem now is not whom to exclude but how to provide fair play assurence, especially aftre the recent rise of chess-computers.

Again, yes, both players are very good and they are with different styles, so we only have to be delighted in a new encounters between them. Stop be so stupidly biased.

There is a process in place, and whatever its faults, it should be adhered to.
I think the idea of a tournament such as Mexico to decide a world champion is daft – chess is a sport with much tradition, and th eworld champion should be decided in match play (and incidentally, I think 12 game matches are too short, rapid tie breaks a poor solution – long matches and draw odds for the reigning champion is the way to go).

Either way, anything that upsets the curent process will almost certainly result in another split and once again devalued world champions, so no rematch in the short term.

…what I should have added to my last post is that despite my disagreement with the Mexico tournament, it is the agreed process and should stand (though I’d like to see a proper candidates process to decide a challenger for a world championship match put in place as soon as possible after Mexico).

Actually, if the new list were put out today, Anand would be #1. But even if Topalov holds the top spot, what’s your point? That the rules don’t apply to whoever holds the top rating? And why do you assume he must be young because he didn’t like Topalov’s disgracing the game (to use the ACP’s words)? Really, your arguments make no sense. The world is angry at Topalov for some very good reasons, and to try to bull your way around them won’t help. There’s a good reason that not a single GM, even Bulgarian ones, supported Topalov’s actions in Elista.
