      Sankarsha Shelke Triumphs in ICS FIDE Rating Chess Tournament

      10-year old Sankarsha Shelke from Vidyadham Prashala School from Shirur won the ICS 1st Maharashtra Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament for U-15 School Children with a score of 8/9 points.

      In this 327 player’s tourney, which concluded today here at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. Sankarsha Shelke became richer by Rs,25000 and the prestigious B.M. Zaveri Memorial Trophy.

      A group of 4-players, Atharvaa Tayade, Bhavik Bharambe, Akshay Nehete and Divya Brahmecha tied for the 2nd place with a score of 7.5/9 however, Atharva was able to maintain his 2nd position on a better tie-break. He got the cash prize of Rs.20,000 while Bhavik, Akshay and Divya bagged Rs.15,000/-, Rs.10,000/- and Rs.5000/- respectively.

      A total cash prizes of Rs.1,25,000/- were disbursed to the top 36-players in this tournament along with 12-trophies for the best players (boys and girls separate) in the Under-7 and Under-9 category respectively.

      The tournament was organized by the Indian Chess School and King’s Chess Academy under the aegis of Bombay Chess Association, Maharashtra Chess Association and the All Indian Chess Federation.

      The performance of the players would be taken into account by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to determine their fide ratings.
