      Erenburg wins Baltimore Open 2015

      Baltimore, Erenburg, Major Tournaments


      The 53rd Annual Baltimore Open was held from 6-8th February at the Sheraton BWI, 1110 Old Elkridge Landing Road in Linthicum, Maryland, USA.

      The tournament consisted of seven sections: Championship (FIDE rated), U2100, U1900, U1700, U1500, U1250 and U1000. A total of 180 players participated in the event.

      All sections were completed over 5 rounds of Swiss system with the time control 40/90, SD/30 + 30”.

      Grandmaster Sergey Erenburg took a clear first place in the Championship section to claim the top prize of 750 USD.

      1. GM SERGEY ERENBURG VA 2667 – 4,0
      2-8. IM TEGSHSUREN ENKHBAT MD 2479, IM JUSTIN SARKAR NY 2448, FM KEVIN WANG MD 2424, ALEXANDER KING NY 2359, FM RALPH PATRICK ZIMMER MD 2292, SAHIL SINHA MD 2248 and CM BRANDON JACOBSON NJ 2142 – 3,5
      9-15. IM RAY KAUFMAN CA 2364, ANDREW ZHENG MD 2235, WFM JENNIFER YU VA 2215, CM CHRISTOPHER YU-SHUO SHEN OH 2162, DAVID SHERMAN DC 2200, DENIS F STRENZWILK MD 2200 and DANIEL CLANCY VA 2166 – 3,0 etc

        If Wesley So had entered, it is entirely possible that he might have won. Not sure though.

        IF Wesley So had been invited, Anand would have had 7 losses due to the total destruction festooned on him in Round 1 Anand v. So.
