      First win for Koneru Humpy

      NEW DELHI: Koneru Humpy defeated Peru’s Zuniga Julio Granda in 22 moves of the Nimzo Indian to score her first victory in the eight-player Ruy Lopez Masters chess tournament at Merida, Spain, on Monday.

      After three rounds, England’s Michael Adams leads with 2.5 points after beating China’s Hou Yifan in 37 moves. Overnight leader China’s Zhang Pengxiang lost to Armenia’s Gabriel Sargissian.

      The results:

      Ruy Lopez Masters (third round): K. Humpy (1.5) bt Zuniga Julio Granda (Per, 1); Hou Yifan (Chn, 0.5) lost to Michael Adams (Eng, 2.5); Zhang Pengxiang (Chn, 2) lost to Gabriel Sargissian (Arm, 2); Manuel Perez Candelario (Esp, 0.5) lost to Fabiano Caruana (Ita, 2).
