        More importantly, what has happened to Bareev over the past few years? Once he was in the top three, last year he got steamrollered in the Candidates, and now he’s bowing out here.

        Bareev first beat Sofia in the candidates… He only lost against Leko.

        And Alexeev: It is always good to watch the Russian Championships – he won them last year – and at the ELO-rating!

        who is Alekseev:

        1-2 in Russia champ (defeated Jakovenko on TB)
        1 on Aeroflot open (on top of a very solid crowd)
        2-3 in Poikovski
        2 in Dortmund
