The US did not even bring two of its three top medal contenders, Ray Robson (age 13), and Nicholas Nip (age 10).

After a half year layoff, Nicholas Nip played in the US Chess League (drawing with a master from Dallas) and is presently leading the Mechanics’ Institute club championship after 3 rounds.

The U.S. doesn’t “bring” the parents decide if they have the finances to represent the USA. Although their is some funding, it isnt 100% funding.

        It costs the parent
        “to represent the USA”.

Our daughter’s representation of the USA in the Pan American cost $5,000. 10% of that sum came from the US Chess Trust Fund which we kindly appreciated, every dollar helped.

two weeks in Vietnam for World…extremely expensive for the parents to go.

I applaude all of the results because it amounts to parental and player sacrifice

        good job Team USA.

Two weeks in Viet Nam costs about $7,000, not counting the lose from take off from the job.
