      America’s newest Grandmaster (maybe)

      Grandmaster, Irina Krush

As I mentioned earlier this morning, Irina Krush earned a GM norm at the 2013 Baku Open. Her rating has also crossed 2500. The only question is if this is her 2nd or 3rd norm.

The reason for the “maybe” is because even though she performed over 2600 in Astana at the Women’s World Team Championship, there was a technical issue which only FIDE can decide if it is a GM norm or not.

Therefore, if FIDE confirms it, she should officially get her Grandmaster title shortly.

Her first GM norm was achieved in 2001 at the first major event I organized, the NY City Mayor’s Cup.

Congratulations to Irina for getting the GM norm in Baku! Well done!

Great news!!! I’ve been hoping for this. And Krush is absolutely the best name that a chess player could be blessed with. Hats off to you, Irina.
