      Ankara FIDE Women Grand Prix

      The 6th tournament of the FIDE Women Grand Prix 2011-2012 is scheduled to take place from 15th to 29th September in Ankara, Turkey. 12 players will compete in the round robin event.

      The reigning World Champion Yifan Hou was the convincing winner of the first two GP tournaments in Rostov and Shenzhen. She skipped the 3rd stage in Nalchik, where her compatriot Zhao Xue dominated.

      Humpy Koneru and Anna Muzychuk shared the first place in Kazan, while Hou Yifan won again in Jermuk.

      The FIDE Women Grand Prix is a series of elite tournaments which will be organised by FIDE and Global Chess. There will be 6 stages over two years in various countries around the world with three tournaments every year.

      The winner of each tournament will win 6,500 euros out of a prize fund of 40,000 euros and the overall winner of the series will win a further 15,000 euros at the end of the series.

      Ankara (historically known as Angora) is the capital of Turkey and the country’s second largest city after Istanbul. The city has a mean elevation of 938 meters.

      Centrally located in Anatolia, Ankara is an important commercial and industrial city. It is the center of the Turkish Government, and houses all foreign embassies. It is an important crossroads of trade, strategically located at the centre of Turkey’s highway and railway networks, and serves as the marketing centre for the surrounding agricultural area.

      The city was famous for its long-haired Angora goat and its prized wool (mohair), a unique breed of cat (Angora cat), Angora rabbits and their prized wool (Angora wool), pears, honey, and the region’s muscat grapes.
